Social Media visibility gets a lot of attention for small business owners. But have you been spending as much time making sure you are being found on Google? In this episode, Business Consultant Robin Walker, talks about different aspects of your Google My Business account, and how some small steps can optimize this platform to help you get found by the right people. Claire Lauer shares some tips on using your content to increase your SEO for your business.
To start off, take a minute to google your business. Try on mobile and on a laptop. What pops up? (Haven’t claimed your account yet? Set up your Google My Business account here: https://www.google.com/business/)
=> Are the pictures, hours, and details updated for your business?
=> Does the main picture sum up what you do, the problem you solve, or who you serve at a glance?
Make it easy to find you:
=> Designate your physical address to your brick and mortar or office space, or specify your service areas; where you travel to offer products and services. Do not use P.O. boxes or an address owned by another business (per Google’s terms of service). More information about using a physical address or a service area.
=> Include a picture of the outside of your physical space so it is easy for customers to recognize your building the first time they visit. Be sure to spruce up the outside of your space for the picture if it needs a little more curb appeal.
=> If it is hard to find, include a small map, description, or information on parking, on your Google account so people find it easily and show up happy, and not frustrated, when they walk in your door.
Google Reviews:
=> Not all reviews are created equal. The golden review is one that not only shows 5 stars, but also speaks to the struggle you addressed, or the outcome you provided, and attracts more of your ideal clients. How can you encourage more reviews like this?
=> Respond to negative reviews, and use it as an opportunity to show your integrity and customer service.
=> Ask your happy customers to leave you a Google review. Make it easy for them to do it. Ask clients when they complete your program or experience, ask business peers that have worked with you professionally, you can even automate the ask into your customer journey.

Great episode. Driving the right people to your website is more important than getting more site traffic.
